Guided by Love: Noah’s Journey to a Forever Home

By Humane Society of Ventura County

Update (9/2): Noah has been placed into a foster-to-adopt home!     Meet Noah, a 3-year-old pup who recently came into our care after being brought in as a stray. He arrived at the shelter fully blind, with both eyes severely affected by congenital abnormalities. Beyond the developmental malformations of his eyes themselves, one had a significant cataract causing inflammation inside the eye, and the other had high pressure (glaucoma). Noah's condition not only prevented him from seeing shadows and light, but they also caused him significant pain. With limited treatment options and in conjunction with his blindness, our Veterinarians opted to remove the source of discomfort. He's now on the road to recovery and on the search for a loving family to take him home!

ARC Training for Independent Living Program

By Humane Society of Ventura County

Last week, Humane Officer Kaelyn Viacava visited the ARC Training for Independent Living Program in Ventura to share her expertise on responsible pet care. The program is designed to teach adults with disabilities the skills they need to live independently, and they welcomed Officer Viacava for an engaging and interactive presentation.  During her presentation, Officer Viacava covered the essentials of pet ownership, including the importance of meeting a pet's basic needs, providing a nutritious diet, and understanding the necessity of spaying and neutering. She also discussed the financial responsibilities that come with caring for an animal, helping participants understand what it takes to provide a lifelong, loving home. The session wrapped up with a lively Q&A, where participants expressed a genuine curiosity about the role of humane officers and asked thoughtful questions about how to best care for their furry companions. Their enthusiasm and insightful questions made for a fun and memorable exchange. To celebrate their participation, Officer Viacava awarded each attendee with a certificate, recognizing their commitment to learning about animal welfare. Smiles and laughter filled the room, making it clear that everyone had a great time. At HSVC, we're proud to partner with community programs like ARC's Training for Independent Living to help create a more compassionate, informed community for both people and pets.
