Last week this adorable little pup was brought to the shelter after some nice people found her running through the streets in east Ventura late the night before. Adoption Counselor Kendra immediately starting browsing online to see if she could find an owner and found a post on Craigslist from someone whose dog had got out the night before in the same area. Kendra called the number and it was a match! Not all dogs are as lucky.
Meet Kismet! Kismet came in as a stray on July 8th and just became available for adoption today! Kismet is a darling, female, Maltese mix who is only about a year old (she does, however, shed). She seems to like other dogs in passing, and she walks nicely on a leash. Kismet loves meeting new people. She is very smart and already knows a handful of tricks such as sit and down, she also loves to cuddle! Come meet this sweet girl today!!
Rabies is an ancient disease that has been afflicting both animals and humans for thousands of years. When we hear the word rabies we often imagine a sick animal, foaming at the mouth, perhaps a crazed gleam in their eye. However Rabies can have a variety of symptoms, some more obvious then others, and can affect any warm-blooded animal or human.
Rattlesnake Training coming to Ojai July 25th! "For those who enjoy the outdoors with your dogs or those living in homes backed up to hillsides and in rural areas, rattlesnakes can be a great risk to your dog requiring emergency medical care and the cost involved can rise quickly."
The 18th Annual Pooch Parade Fundraising Dog Walk and Pet Expo is this Sunday, July 19 at San Buenaventura State Beach Park. This year's theme is "Seniors Need Second Chances Too" to raise awareness for all of the senior dogs that end up abandoned and overlooked in the shelter system. C.A.R.L. has started Sam's Senior Dog Rescue Project to help place these deserving dogs in forever homes where they can live out the rest of their lives being loved and cared for. It's a fun filled day great for the entire family!
This quirky pair is Fred and Ethel! These two were abandoned at the storage facility next door to the shelter last week. They are both Golden Labrador Retrievers and we estimate their age to be around 7-8 years old. Fred and Ethel are just as sweet as can be.
