The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.
On Thursday, May 14th, our Humane Officers responded to a call from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department regarding a lead they had received of a dog with an exposed bone in its foot that it was eating away at. When officers arrived on the scene, they saw a dog tied to the fence wearing an E-Collar (cone). There was no food, water, or shelter and the dog was clearly injured on its rear right leg.
Congratulations to Amanda Volden and Melissa Yanez, CSU Channel Islands graduates 2015! Back in January Amanda and Melissa contacted the Humane Society of Ventura County to see about joining our team to work on their Senior Capstone for the communications department. Every year the graduating class of CSU Channel Islands is required to do 90 hours of community service in their are of expertise. With over 100 graduates each year the program donates close to 10,000 hours of service to the Ventura County Non-Profit Community!
Betty is a darling female, brown and white Labrador Retriever mix (possibly with Great Dane). She is about 5 months old, and she has been at the HSVC since April 23, 2015. Betty is a sweet girl who likes being with people! She does not seem to have had training, and will need to learn some basics. Betty is ready to go exploring with you! THREE AND FIVE DAY SESSIONS FROM JUNE 17 - JULY 31 We are offering a variety of camp sessions this year for various age groups between 7 and 15. Camps are limited to only 8 campers so register early! Spring is here and we all know what that means……KITTIES! There are many homeless cats on the prowl and we are often asked how to tell the difference between “feral” cats and “stray” cats in your neighborhood. Knowing how to tell the difference can help inform you how best to interact with a cat or what type of intervention would be in the cat’s best interest.
This handsome fella is Sully. Sully is a 2 year old, medium hair, tuxedo cat. He came to the Humane Society on January 24th, 2015 when his previous owners moved away and left him behind. Because of this we do not have any information on his past. When he first arrived at he shelter he was very shy and would hide from the public.

Zoey and Olive are inseparable sweethearts! They are female, 7-year-old, Chihuahuas! They may need some time to warm up, but if you sit down, they will both hop right into your lap! Olive (Black) is friendlier at first, but Zoey is the one with the opinion that needs to be heard! (Talk about spunk! As you can see by her "tough-but-lovable" face in her picture below!) These girls are not your typical Chihuahuas! They are both very well trained! Both of these girls sit and lay down on a dime,(at your command) and they come when called! (Even when Olive got out of an open door, we calmly called her by name, and she came back into her pen.) Both of these lovely ladies walk well on a leash and they simply adore people and attention! These girls do not require much maintenance and will be content to keep a senior company or sleep at your feet while you work. Come meet these two gems today! Lets keep them together!
