The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.
We have been waiting to share this video until our cats were well enough for visitors. it may be another day or two so please call the shelter before you come to visit them.
In the meantime enjoy this hilarious and amazing video that Mr. Whiskers previous owners made to show the world what a great cat he is! Mr. Whiskers family had to surrender him to the shelter for reasons unavoidable. It's rare that folks who surrender their animals to us participate in finding them their new home. Not the case with Mr. Whiskers! They sent us this video the other day and have been calling regularly to see how he is doing.
Congratulations to Jujubee who gave birth to 6 beautiful pups this morning! Jujubee came into our care almost two weeks ago and has been receiving the royal treatment from our staff and volunteers getting her comfortable and ready for her big day!
He can sit. He can stay. He is even learning the army crawl! Astro is a energetic Labrador/Rottweiler mix who loves to meet new people and enjoy a game of fetch!
THIS SATURDAY AT LAKE CASITAS!
We are expecting a beautiful sunny 85 degrees at the lake this Saturday for our first Dog Jog! Friends of all ages are encouraged to pre-register for this Saturday's 5K walk/jog to benefit needy animals throughout Ventura County.
FRANK'S FOOD TRUCK will be at the finish line serving up a variety of vegetarian items as well your more traditional favorites and the one and only BLISS FROZEN YOGURT in Ojai will have her usual array of delicious flavors for you to enjoy! So make sure to bring a few bucks to support these two awesome family owned businesses!
This morning we got a phone call that a Nanny goat and two babies had gotten loose in Oak View from a house where no one could be reached. A nice neighbor called it in and one of our Officers went out to see if she could help wrangle them up.
UPDATE: We were all so happy to receive the following update on our dear Mandarin who was at the shelter for over 6 months before she was adopted about 4 weeks ago. We estimated that Mandarin was between 15-17 years old. It takes a special person/s to adopt a senior animal, but as you can see the rewards are priceless! We have quite a few senior animals at the shelter now hoping to one day have their own "senior retreat".
This little angel is Opal. Opal was brought to us as a stray with her buddy Pearl on February 16th. We estimate that Opal is about 14 years old, she is a black (and gray) Chihuahua, and she is quite lively!
