Improved Dog Play Yards at the HSVC!

By Franki Williams

The HSVC is happy to report that thanks to the overwhelming support of our community and volunteers we were able to provide our dogs with an improved play yard over the weekend. You may recall about a month ago we sent out a call to our supporters to help with funds to repair a few of our yards. We ended up raising more than we expected and were able to purchase the materials necessary to put up new siding on all of our big dog yards!

Pet of the Week - Huxley

By Franki Williams

This handsome cat is Huxley. Huxley came in as a stray on December 17, 2014. We estimate that Huxley is about 5 years old. He currently lives in our Cat Room with up to 20 other cats so he is accustomed to having lots of other fur friends! Huxley loves attention and is quite fond of being pet which can be very therapeutic! If you are interested in spending time with Huxley please ask a kennel attendant to help you as we have 5 other black cats in the room as well (he is the one with the white whiskers).

She checked in throughout her course with an exciting report and inside look at what becoming a Humane Officer involves. This is a great insight and wonderful read on what Humane Officers do for their community. We are so fortunate here in Ventura County to have another compassionate and brave citizen on the job out there protecting animals from neglect and abuse.

Pet of the Month - Harold

By Franki Williams

Hello friends, my name is Harold! I am a purebred German Shepherd and am around 2 years old. My friends at the Humane Society tell me I am a handsome boy-I agree! I have been spending time with the shelter staff, volunteers, and the Humane Officer who rescued me. They are teaching me good manners - I like it when they tell me what a good boy I am! I have learned how to sit and lay down on command. With the proper training I can learn to walk perfectly by your side. I am a big boy - already over 75 pounds! I would do best in a home with some one that is ready and committed to having a big dog. I am really good at making friends with people and other dogs- you might say I'm a pretty popular guy. I look forward to finding an owner that is ready to work with a trainer, and take me on lots of adventures! Thank you everyone-hope to meet my new family soon! Hugs, Harold

Staff quickly noticed that little Gretel was uncomfortable and our vet determined she had a dislocated foot that needed to be set and casted. She is currently taking it easy per the Doctor's orders so she can save all her energy for her future forever family!
