HSVC Finds Homes for 600+ Animals in 2024!
As 2024 comes to a close, we are overwhelmed with gratitude and joy as we celebrate an incredible milestone: 600 animal adoptions this year! This achievement is not just a number; it represents 600 lives saved, 600 families made whole, and an immeasurable impact on the community. Every adoption tells a story of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of love. From shy kittens finding their first warm laps to senior dogs getting their well-deserved second chances, each animal's journey reminds us why we do what we do.
Our 600th adoption just so happens to be a shy kitten named Umbrella (left), who was given a second chance and continues to show her true potential in her forever home. Her two siblings also found their forever homes just a few days before her, making Umbrella's adoption a very special moment for our staff. We are so happy the three "U" kittens found their happily ever afters, and we're grateful to the 600 families who chose to adopt and not shop this year. Here's to many more in the New Year!
This year, we focused on making adoptions as accessible and joyful as possible. In 2024, we significantly expanded our foster support network, providing animals with a safe space to heal and grow until they found their forever homes. This network was essential in assisting animals with special needs who require extra care. To make adoption more accessible, we implemented an open adoption method, making it easier for future adopters to welcome a furry friend into their home. Our shelter also offered reduced fees during special campaigns and provided valuable resources, including low-cost spay/neuter services, vaccine clinics, and pet care education.
Behind every adoption is a hero, and our success would not have been possible without the heroes in our community. Starting with the animal care team who spend every waking hour caring for and spending their time with the animals; volunteers who dedicate countless hours helping to care for our animals and supporting our events; fosters who open their homes and hearts to the animals in need; donors whose generosity ensure we could provide medical care, food, and shelter; and adopters who give these animals a chance at a forever happy life. You all make this milestone possible, and your support inspires us to dream even bigger for 2025. As we celebrate this momentous occasion, we invite you to join our journey by adopting, volunteering, donating, or fostering. Many animals are still waiting for their forever homes. You can help by assisting at our shelter, participating in events, or joining our foster program. Every dollar donated contributes to providing the best care possible for our animals.
While we're thrilled with what we've accomplished, there's always more work to be done. Our goals for the coming year include expanding our foster program to assist even more animals in need. We aim to increase community outreach and education to promote responsible pet ownership, and we will continue advocating for spay/neuter initiatives to help reduce overpopulation. With your support, we are confident that we can surpass our New Year milestones and bring hope to even more animals.
Thank you to everyone who helped make 600 adoptions possible. Every wagging tail, happy purr, and grateful paw is a testament to the power of community. We appreciate your support in achieving this incredible milestone. Together, we have not only saved lives but also created a footprint of compassion and hope. Here’s to an even brighter 2025, where every animal finds their forever family and every heart is touched by the joy of adoption.
HSVC is still offering its "pick a candy cane" adoption promotion to celebrate the holiday season. Future adopters can randomly choose a candy cane from a selection of stockings to determine their adoption fee. Prices range from $25 to half off until the end of December. Stop by the shelter (located at 402 Bryant St in Ojai) to meet your future best friend. Visiting hours are 10 am through 4:30 pm.
