Lots of Love for Lucero!

We are thrilled to share an update for Lucero! The 3-year-old Thoroughbred/Quarterhorse mix was adopted by Davina in mid-January this year and has been thriving in her new home!

Lucero is one of several horses impounded in the field by our Humane Officers back in August 2022 as part of an abuse and neglect case. After almost one-and-a-half years, the case reached a resolution through the Ventura Superior Court. Both animal owners were charged with two Felony counts of Animal Neglect 597(b) PC. The victory against animal cruelty meant Lucero was finally able to be made available for adoption!

Davina was searching for a friendly companion horse to accompany her on trail rides. She reached out to our Equine Manager, Christina, who thought Lucero might be a good fit. After meeting her at the shelter, Davina fell in love with the sweet mare and applied to adopt her. Lucero was officially adopted a few days later and has enjoyed many outdoor adventures and trail rides with her new mom since. We're so happy this gorgeous girl found such an amazing forever home! Thank you, Davina, for giving Lucero the life and love she deserves!
