Thank You Moon Valley Nursery!

Special thanks to Moon Valley Nurseries in Fillmore for their donation of 7 elm trees to the Humane Society of Ventura County!

Michelle Murphy, a volunteer with the HSVC who typically works with the big dogs, saw a need for more shade and took it upon herself to reach out to Moon Valley for the donation. Our dog agility yard is the largest yard on the property and other than one overhang, there isn’t much shade for the volunteers and the dogs to stay cool. During the summer months it is often too hot to utilize the play yard at all.

Raymond Mara, office manager with Moon Valley Nurseries, was on hand for the selection of the best 15 gallon trees. According to Raymond, this time next year, each tree should be a canopy to provide a wealth of shade near the dog runs and horse pastures.  “Having additional shade on our property means that we can utilize more of the shelter all times of the year,” said Greg Cooper, Director of Community Outreach for the HSVC. Cooper continues, “Community partners like Moon Valley Nurseries and dedicated volunteers like Michelle Murphy allow us to fulfill our mission and we are tremendously grateful for their efforts.”
