Five Dollar Friday is a weekly opportunity for our supporters to get a behind the scenes look at what goes on to care for each animal that comes through the shelter. The average cost per day to care for a dog or cat at the Humane Society of Ventura County is $45, with an average stay of 2 months. Besides the daily cost of food and shelter, many of the animals in our care have come from broken homes or were abandoned at their most vulnerable stages and may require advanced medical care, training, or other special accommodations. However, the results of the care and dedication needed to not only care for these animals but address community needs and provide the necessary services to improve the relationship between animals and humans is priceless.
