Did you know that The Humane Society of Ventura County is celebrating its 90th birthday this June? We are so excited to kick off the celebrations with an Open House on June 11th from 10-3 pm. We have been working hard to get the shelter ready and just this past weekend we were lucky to have a group of volunteers join us for a Clean-Up and Repair Day! We worked with volunteers from our local Kohl's and Amazon facilities who graciously spent their Saturday morning doing the painstaking work of preparing our livestock area to be disaster relief ready.
We had so much fun visiting the students of Villanova Preparatory School as part of their Mental Health Awareness Week! Our staff brought two of our shelter pups, Bean and Gilbert, to the school during their lunch break to offer the students some much-needed puppy love. As you can see, the dogs didn't seem to mind the attention either! The students had a blast, and it was a great way to get Bean and Gilbert out of the shelter for the afternoon. Thank you Villanova Prep for having us!
We had so much fun at our free vaccination and adoption event at The Wharf in Ventura over the weekend! Our staff was able to give free vaccines to lots of furry friends, and one of our shelter pups even found his forever home. Thank you to all who attended, and thank you to The Wharf for hosting us!
Big news! We have four more horses now available for adoption! Say hello to Chief, Cecelia, Cowboy, and Shyann! Each of these gorgeous equines came to the HSVC through our Humane Officers as part of abuse and neglect cases. We are so excited to finally be able to help find them the forever homes they deserve!

May is Adopt a Horse Month! The ASPCA launched this special month-long celebration to promote the numerous adoptable horses in shelters and to raise awareness about equine adoption. While we currently only have one horse available for adoption at our shelter, that doesn't mean she doesn't deserve the same amount of love! Help us celebrate Adopt a Horse Month by finding miss Wendy Nova the forever home she deserves!
