Shoutout to our Community Cat Trappers!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

The kids are back in school and the kitts are seemingly everywhere! Community cat populations are up about 7% over last year, and HSVC's lone trapper, Jayme, has been inundated with requests to trap cats and kittens across Ventura County. Thanks in large part to Jayme’s valiant efforts and steadfast dedication to felines, we've been smitten with over 100 kittens since our Foster Program launched six months ago. HSVC and our fantastic Fosters are serving as many precious "pawkitt" panthers as we can this kitten season, but are still seeking attentive foster families for our tiny tigers in need of extra attention and care. We’re also fortunate to serve many purrfect adult cats too! We currently have several glorious gatos experiencing stress in their shelter environment. If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, please call the shelter at (805) 646-6505 or email our Foster Coordinator, Cheney, at [email protected]. Those interested can also learn more about our foster program by visiting our Foster Page and filling out an interest form. Once submitted, you will be contacted by our Foster Coordinator with the next steps.  To learn more about Jayme and to join her trapping efforts, please visit her Facebook page.

Harold and Kumar's Journey - An Underdog Story

By Humane Society of Ventura County

In mid-August of 2023, Humane Officers from the Humane Society of Ventura County received a call regarding a case of potential animal neglect. Upon arrival at the home, our Officers met two adult dogs, now known as Emma and Bartolo, and their two puppies. The puppies, affectionately named Harold and Kumar by our shelter staff, were about five months old at the time. The animal owners had previously tried to get the two adult dogs altered but were unable to schedule an appointment before Emma fell pregnant. They stated they could no longer care for the dogs and had previously tried to find homes for them no success. After working with Humane Officers, the owners agreed it would be in the best interest of the animals to be signed over to the Humane Society of Ventura County.

Humane Education Youth (HEY) Programs 2023/24 Season Starts Anew

By Angie Sagliani

For the 2023-2024 school year, Humane Education Youth (HEY) programs will begin sharing classroom presentations for schools and youth organizations starting in September. The programs will be shifting slightly to a more comprehensive humane education approach and will provide learners with empowering ways to help animals in their local communities. Inspiration struck when HEY decided that sharing information not only needs to focus on animals but also on the intersections of humans, nonhuman animals, and the planet. The goal of HEY programming is to engage youth audiences in learning more about companion animals and mindfully thinking of ways to create healthy ecosystems for our neighborhoods.

Help Us Find Maui a Home!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

Help us find a home for 3-year-old Maui! This handsome boy was adopted from the shelter as a kitten three years ago. He was recently returned to us after his previous owner relocated to a home that was not pet-friendly. Maui is a super sweet, social guy who desperately needs out of the shelter. He has a history of Cystitis, a condition that causes inflammation in the urinary bladder that flares up with stress. Because of his condition, Maui is on a special diet to help keep him healthy. He is currently residing in our outdoor catio area to keep him from snacking on food that could upset his tummy. But that doesn't mean he can't live a long, happy life in the right home!  Maui is a friendly boy who needs a little extra TLC to reduce his stress level. We know his purrfect home is out there, we just need help to find it! Stop by the shelter or call us at 805-646-6505 if you are interested in fostering or potentially adopting Maui! The HSVC is located at 402 Bryant St. and we are open to visitors any time Monday - Saturday between 10 am - 4:30 pm.
