On Saturday, June 11th, the Humane Society of Ventura County celebrated 84 years of service in Ventura county by hosting an Open House. Staff was on hand to answer questions and tours were available throughout the shelter.

We are so grateful to our sponsors who helped create such a welcoming atmosphere for our guests. We are especially thankful to Firefly Ceramics who helped kick off our new Tiles for Tails Campaign to help raise funds for our new dog kennels. Firefly Ceramics sent over members of their staff with all the supplies necessary for our guests to create some very stunning work!

What would a birthday celebration be without cake!? Walmart in Oxnard's Store Manager Christy, and two of her staff members, not only helped serve our guests but donated all the goodies to keep everyone smiling. We would also like to thank Lucy in the Sky who entertained the children with her face painting and bubble machine. There were many local business who donated goods to our event. For donating items to our raffle we would like to thank Petropolis, The Wharf, Ojai Village Veterinary, and Pet Barn. Refreshments were kindly provided by Walmart, Papa Lennon's Pizza, Vons, Valentino's Take n' Bake Pizza, and Trader Joe's.

We are always grateful to our local media who help bring awareness to animals in need through out the area. The Ventura County Star and Ojai Valley News has continuously provided coverage to these important events helping us to reach an even larger audience.

As a result of this very special day over ten animals found new homes. Thank you to everyone who adopted an animal in need. These matches were the result of the hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers who put so much effort, often behind the scenes, to make these unions happen. One such volunteer, John Darling, spent the day bringing awareness to our senior dogs while raising the funds to cover over 20 adoptions!

All the amazing images you are enjoying were captured by the talented Greg A. Cooper, who was been donating his time and skills to the shelter for over 25 years. Thank you Greg for your continued support!

A highlight of the event was a gift of $30,000 to kick off the rebuilding of the dog kennels, donated by long time supporter and volunteer, Jackie Welsh. Thank you for your gracious gift!

The Humane Society is excited to continue it's mission of  promoting the health, safety, welfare, compassionate care and protection of all animals through education and community outreach programs. The organization would like to thank the public, volunteers, and staff for making the event such a huge success!
