Happy Tails Mela!

We have wonderful news! Sweet Mela was adopted this afternoon by two wonderful folks, Lori and John! Mela’s story is very special and a great example of people working together to save lives. We are so proud of how far she has come. Mela has beat the odds in so many ways, but she kept going strong, and found herself the perfect home!

Mela was originally pulled from another shelter in southern California by an independent rescue group and was brought to the HSVC back in mid-January. It was apparent that she had suffered trauma to her back hip and after visiting a local vet it was clear that she was going to need surgery. We put a call out to our supporters to raise the $2500 necessary to cover her medical bills. The wonderful and caring staff of VetSurg in Ventura did a fantastic job and Mela was soon released into a foster home to recuperate.

Once she got back on her feet it was time to find Mela a permanent home. Lori had contacted the shelter awhile back after seeing Mela’s face on our website. She couldn’t get her out of her head and checked in regularly to see how she was doing. When they all finally met, It was obvious that the feeling was mutual, and after many hugs and kisses from staff, Mela was off to start her life anew!

Thank you to all of Mela's friends and fans for your support. We are so grateful to the volunteers and staff who worked so closely with Mela to make sure that she was getting all the love and attention required to heal from her traumatic experience. We also want to thank those of you who donated to her fund, your generous donations made it possible for us to give Mela the best care possible and make her new life a reality!
