Five Dollar Friday - Senior Sweethearts Looking For A Forever Home!

This handsome couple were found wandering up on Gorham Road in Ojai back in early March. A kind person came across them and rather than passing them by, stopped and brought them to the shelter. We were confident that a family was out there looking for them, but sadly, they were never claimed. Penelope and Jack have now been at the shelter for nearly 3 months and spend their days in a pen with up to 7 other senior dogs. It is our hope to find the perfect family and have them adopted out together!

Penelope, on the left, is 13 years old, but has the temperament of a much younger dog. We have not witnessed a single person be able to pass by this sweet girl without being stopped in their tracks by her smile and bubbly personality. Jack is a few years younger and is also in great shape. Jack is a very easy dog to get along with and the two of them make an irresistible pair. Though they both get along very well with other dogs, it is each other’s company that keeps them going so strong.

Nearly a quarter of the dogs currently at the shelter fall into the senior range with nearly half of those over the age of ten. Many of these animals were abandoned to fend for themselves during their golden years or surrendered solely due to their age. While at the shelter, senior animals receive 5 star care that includes socialization in our senior pen, trips to the beach, and the loving arms of our volunteers. At the Humane Society of Ventura County, we believe that age is only number. Senior dogs will stay in our care until we find a permanent home, foster, or hospice situation. In the meantime, we need your help to make sure these innocent animals continue to receive the care they deserve!
