There is no better lesson for the benefits of spay and neuter than when an expecting mother is brought to a shelter abandoned and alone. This sad story is one that shelters and rescues across the nation see far to often. Fortunately, here at the HSVC, our caring staff is prepared to help these mothers during this vulnerable time.

Just this past Monday, an expecting mother was brought to the Humane Society of Ventura County for safety after being found wandering alone here in Ojai. She had no identification tags or microchip, and sadly no one has come to claim her. She was already full term pregnant when she arrived, and this morning went into labor. While at the shelter, pregnant animals receive impeccable care, complete with a private room, clean linens, nutritional food, and the appropriate exercise.

At the Humane Society of Ventura County, we believe that spaying and neutering is the best way to relieve the stress on local shelters and prevent future animals from experiencing the harsh reality of overpopulation. In the meantime, we will continue to provide essential services for these vulnerable animals when they need us the most. This is where you can help! Won't you please consider making a small donation to help support animals in need? Every penny counts!
