Pupdate: Six-Weeks-Old and Growing Fast!

This rambunctious bunch is officially 6-weeks-old! They are becoming very independent, which means Mama Juliet is finally able to enjoy some much-needed "me time". Juliet's puppies spend each day exploring their surroundings, wrestling with their siblings, and napping after a long day's work of being adorable. Each pup is also now eating both wet and dry food four times a day. They are growing so fast!

We are fortunate to have the support of so many individuals, businesses, and community partners. Wayne and Pam Eichele are two of them who recently announced a commitment to include the HSVC in their estate planning.

Pupdate: Week 5 of Puppy Madness!

#Pupdate Juliet’s baker’s dozen of pups are now 5-weeks-old and growing fast! In addition to milk from Mama, they are enjoying a yummy helping of wet food and formula twice a day. The rambunctious brood is enjoying playtime with our staff and expressing their individual personalities more every day. However, these fur babies are NOT AVAILABLE for adoption at this time, as they are still too young to be away from Mama.

In Loving Memory of Moxie, HSVC Alum and Search Dog

It is with a heavy heart to announce that veteran Search Dog Moxie passed away recently with her handler, Brent Koeninger, at her side. Moxie was surrendered to the Humane Society of Ventura County when her original owner was deployed overseas. Within a day, the Search Dog Foundation had received numerous calls about the petite black Lab that loved her toys! She did a wonderful job on her search dog candidate evaluation and was soon on her way to SDF’s training kennel to learn the skills she would need for a career in disaster search.

Pupdate: Juliet's Puppies are 4-weeks-old!

It's time for your weekly pupdate! Mama Juliet's puppies are now 4-weeks-old and growing fast! This week our 13 furry friends got to enjoy their first taste of solid food and were introduced to the world of toys. Boy, do they love toys! Each pup is developing its own adorable personality and becoming more independent each day. However, they are still nursing and will not be available for adoption for several weeks.

Hero Update: A True Adoption Success Story

Hero has come a long way since he was first brought to the Humane Society of Ventura County as part of an abuse and neglect case in October of 2018. When our Humane Officers first met the 5-year-old Thoroughbred, he was about 500 pounds underweight with a score of 1 (the worst) on the Henneke scale. He was standing in a filthy corral caked with manure and every piece of wood in reach was chewed.

Juliet's Puppy Shower was a Success!

Juliet’s Puppy Shower was a huge success! Thank you to all the animal lovers who donated toys, treats, and more to help us welcome Juliet and her extra large litter of fur babies to the HSVC! The puppies are now 3-weeks-old, and though they are still far too young to be adopted, each pup is slowly beginning to open its eyes and ears. Many are even discovering how to scoot around the nursery. Mama Juliet definitely has her paws full!

HSVC Excited to Welcome Juliet and Her Puppies!

Puppies have taken over the Humane Society of Ventura County! We are very excited to officially introduce Juliet and her brood of adorable fur babies! Three-year-old Juliet was transferred to the HSVC through our rescue partners at Kern County Animal Services in mid-March. Very sweet but very pregnant, the German Shepherd mama-to-be was placed into foster care to ensure she had a quiet and comfortable space to have her puppies.
