Bronco Finds a Home!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

We are excited to share that our boy Bronco has been adopted! He will be living happily ever after with Jordyn and Tommy! Bronco, a 3-year-old Welsh Pony, was surrendered to the HSVC in late November by his previous owner after they could no longer care for him. He quickly settled into our barn and made friends with our other shelter horses and animal care staff.  Jordan was in search of a young horse that she could train from the ground up. As Bronco has not received any prior training in his previous home, he was the perfect fit! We can't wait to see what kind of horse Bronco grows up to be with his new family. Congrats and happy tails, Bronco!

Beat the Heat this February with our Spay/Neuter Promotion

By Humane Society of Ventura County

Here at HSVC, we know that each kitten born represents another home taken away from a cat already in a shelter. Our shelter wants to get ahead of kitten season this year and beat the heat with a special promotion! From February 1st - 29th, all cat spays and neuters will be just $10! Appointment is required and a nonrefundable $10 deposit is required at the time of booking your appointment. Spots are limited, so don't delay in taking advantage of this great deal! Please call the Clinic at 805-646-7849 to book today!  THE TRUTH ABOUT SPAYING AND NEUTERING: Altered animals are better companions. Because they are less likely to roam in search of a mate and to participate in aggressive behavior, they can live longer, healthier lives. Neutered cats are less likely to spray and mark their territory. Spaying a female dog or cat removes its heat cycle, which eliminates the constant crying and nervous behavior they display for a week to two weeks, as often as two to three times a year. Spayed and neutered pets are less likely to bite than unaltered animals. Even if you are able to find homes for all of your animal’s offspring, allowing your pet to have babies contributes to the pet overpopulation problem by reducing the number of homes available for animals awaiting adoption in shelters. While the Humane Society tries its best to find homes for all animals under its care, the sad fact is that there are not enough homes to go around. Altering your pet will not lead to it getting fat. Animals gain weight because they are fed too much and are given too little exercise. Removing the reproductive system eliminates organs that are subject to infections, tumors and cancers. Your pet should not be used to teach your children the “miracle of birth,” unless you are also prepared to teach them the “reality of death.” Unwanted animals are killed by the thousands each day throughout the United States, making it a tough lesson to learn, especially for the animals.
