The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.
HSVC would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our friends at The Wharf in Ventura. The Wharf is not only a pet food supplier to the shelter but also generously donates surplus pet food for our Pet Pantry program. This surplus food gets distributed to other organizations and to the community through our Pet Pantry program serving all of Ventura County.
A big thank you goes out to Tracy Vail of The Canine Messenger for coming to the shelter and hosting a training for our volunteers! The volunteers learned a variety of skills during their 3-hour training including how to go on a pack walk, how to train a dog in the agility yard, and proper kennel conduct. This type of training is vital to helping our shelter pups learn their manners before finding their forever homes.
With Mother's Day just around the corner, we thought what better way to promote our adoptable mamas than to have a Mother's Day adoption special! Our three shelter moms, Lala, Ellie, Baby, and Maya are all available half-priced at just $60 all month long!

The HSVC is proud to announce the promotion of Humane Officer J. Utter to Senior Humane Officer! Utter began her journey with the Humane Society of Ventura County (HSVC) as an Adoption Counselor in November 2019. She was offered the chance to pursue her passion for animal welfare after exhibiting all the outstanding qualities necessary to become a Humane Officer. Since becoming a Humane Officer, Utter has made a difference in the lives of countless animals experiencing abuse and neglect. We are so proud of how far she's come!
Save the date! HSVC Cares is hosting another low-cost vaccine clinic for your furry friends on Saturday, May 13th from 9 am - 12 pm at First Baptist Church of El Rio (2857 Cortez St. in Oxnard, CA). No appointment necessary. First come first served while supplies last! We are offering: FREE FVRCP (upper respiratory) vaccines for cats FREE DHPP (distemper/parvo) vaccines for dogs $5 Rabies vaccines (proof of Rabies vaccination required to receive 3-year certificate of vaccination) Reminder! Our staff had so much fun over the weekend at RescueCon! We had lots of traffic to our two booths from animal-loving friends looking to learn more about all things HSVC. Plus we had three adorable animal ambassadors attend the event, Camila, Ellie, and 16-year-old Littles. Thank you to all who joined us, and thank you to the staff who helped make this event such a success! If you missed us at RescueCon, we will also be exhibiting at this Thursday's Latino Business Expo in Ventura. HSVC staff will be hosting a booth from 3 - 8 pm at the expo, located at the Ventura Fairgrounds, on Thursday, April 27th. It was an afternoon full of fun and food at Sunday's Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast! Our volunteers were treated to a delicious spread of breakfast foods, goodie bags, raffle prizes, and more. Thank you to all of our volunteers who attended the celebration, and thank you to all the shelter staff who helped shower our beloved volunteers with some much-deserved praise!
