HSVC Officially Welcomes Officer Gonzalez to the Team!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

The Humane Society of Ventura County is thrilled to officially welcome Officer. R. Gonzalez to the Humane Investigations team! He was sworn in on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Ventura County Hall of Justice and badged at the shelter in the presence of friends and family. With the addition of Officer R. Gonzalez, HSVC will now have three full-time Humane Officers. This year the Humane Officers will have had approximately 520+ cases across Ventura County. Increasing the number of Humane Officers will directly impact HSVC’s ability to respond to animal cruelty and neglect complaints. We could not think of a better candidate to join this incredible team! Officer R. Gonzalez graduated from Ventura County Sheriff’s Reserve Academy in June 2012, where he received his Police Officer Standards and training certifications. As a Ventura County local, born and raised, he is an animal lover who has had numerous pets ranging from cats, dogs, hamsters, and even a snake. Having multiple pets throughout his life has instilled a passion for animal welfare in him. He then joined the HSVC team in December of 2022 as a Humane Officer Trainee and has completed the vigorous training this past year that is required to become a badged Humane Officer.

By Humane Society of Ventura County

The Humane Society of Ventura County is excited to offer its first-ever Spin the Wheel of Adoption Event! Now through October 31st, all adoption fees will be determined by our Wheel of Adoption. Those looking to adopt can spin the wheel and take home their new furry family member for a reduced adoption fee. Fees range from $1 to half-price, and all dogs, cats, and kittens are eligible!  Our shelter is currently at capacity for both dogs and cats. Our friends at Kirby Subaru and ASPCA are donating $100 per adoption to occur in the month of October, up to $3100! You can help us reach our goal by bringing home a shelter animal in need or helping us spread the word. We appreciate the support! Stop by and visit the shelter if you are interested in adopting with us! The HSVC is open Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to visit with the animals and we are located at 402 Bryant St. in Ojai, CA.

Maui Finds His Forever Home!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

We are thrilled to share that after 85 days at the shelter, Maui has found his forever home! He was adopted earlier this month by Scott and has been thriving ever since! Three-year-old Maui was adopted from the HSVC as a kitten in 2020. He returned to us in mid-July of 2023 after his previous owner relocated to a home that was not pet-friendly. After returning to the shelter, it was discovered that Maui had a history of Cystitis, a condition that causes inflammation in the urinary bladder that flares up with stress. He had to be on a special diet due to his condition and resided in our outdoor catio area to keep him from snacking on food that could upset his tummy. While staff and volunteers frequently visited Maui in his outdoor bachelor pad, what he really needed was to find a home of his own. Scott visited the shelter earlier this month in search of a friendly companion cat. He spent time with our boy Maui and instantly fell in love. The rest is history! Thank you, Scott, for taking a chance on Maui, and thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped this special guy find his happily ever after!
